April Mullen nominated for the Niagara Falls Hall of Fame !
Canadian chart toppers, a busy movie director and a longtime chronicler of the Falls are among this year’s inductees to the Niagara Falls Arts & Culture Wall of Fame.
The five additions, expected to be approved by city council Tuesday, will be celebrated during an induction ceremony at Niagara Square Oct. 29. “I think it’s a real cross section,” says Laurie Moffat. co-chairwoman of the city’s Arts, Culture & Museums Committee. “That’s important. We don’t want all music, we don’t want all museums.”
Director April Mullen, a former Miss Teen Niagara who went on to direct the Canadian comedies Rock, Paper, Scissors: The Way of the Tosser and Dead Before Dawn. In recent years she has tackled serious fare like 88, Farhope Tower and the upcoming lesbian love story Below Her Mouth, which screens at the Toronto International Film Festival Sept. 10 to 16.
The committee votes on inductees from names submitted by members of the public. Among the criteria is that the individual/group must have resided in Niagara Falls for an extensive period of time. Inductees receive a plaque, and their framed photo/bio joins dozens of others on the Wall of Fame inside Niagara Square, near the Winners entrance.
